Hippo Motor Group is delighted to support Dave Holden Racing (DHR) team. This young sidecar team is made up of the driver, Lewis Blackstock and passenger Paddy Rosney.
The team formed in 2014 and has competed in the Formula 2 Sidecar Championship where they won the award for best newcomers in 2015. They have picked up many more awards and podium finishes since then. We are very pleased to be their sponsor for the upcoming season.
Despite only forming in 2014, the team has a long history due to its namesake. Dave Holden is the grandfather of Lewis and was a legend on the sidecar circuit. Lewis aims to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps and beyond by becoming World Champion. Legendary Isle of Man TT racer, David Calvert told the Lancashire Telegraph believes the duo can do it and so do we. Calvert said: “Lewis can be world champion one day – he is that good.”
This year, DHR will be competing in the British Formula 2 Championship, British Formula 1 Championship and the Isle of Man TT event. This follows them being invited to take their 600C machines and compete in the Hyundai Heavy Industries British F600 Sidecar Championship. The team racked up 9 podium places in that championship and took 2nd place overall
DHR are a local team to us with great potential and we are excited to support them built upon their previous success. We hope to see many of you at their races and cheer them on with us. Also, keep a look out for our logo.
Sidecar racing is a motorcycle-with-sidecar road race. There is always a driver who rides the bike and passenger in the sidecar. It is closer to motorcycle racing than car racing because the combination of speed and openness raises the risk far higher than it would if you were racing a car.
The current design for sidecar racing came into development in the 1950s and has been developed to be more aerodynamic. These new models combined aerodynamics with grippy tyres and powerful engines. The engines available in sidecars are 300cc two strokes or 600cc four strokes. The latter is what DHR drives.
We wish DHR luck this year and look forward to seeing all their success in the future.
